      Teacher of Drama

From the beginning of the academic year through to the summer half term I was a newly qualified teacher of drama. I taught a range of ages from 11-18, all year groups apart from year 12. I was responsible for 3 exam classes, year 10/11/13 and several KS3 classes. Parent’s evenings, inset training days, after school exam rehearsals, filing reports and maintaining data sheets were all part of my role as a teacher. I was a tutor of a year 7 group, for whom I was the first point of contact within the school. I also taught PSHE which looked at life skills and safety measures. Marking and feedback were also a huge part of my role as teacher and ensuring every individual was safe and engaged in my classroom. Show less

Responsible for the Learning Resources service and managing a team of nine staff across six sites around South Essex. The Learning Resources team provide literary resources, technical equipment, academic skills support and IAG to learners and staff across both FE and HE departments. Driving the service through continuous development to stay relevant and keep up with the demands of learners, staff and the curriculum whilst being considerate to budgeting and OFSTED/OFS requirements. My responsibilities to HE learners were greater since stepping aside from my role prior, this was managed through well-maintained strong communication links with the staff in the department of HE and also participating in Student Support Forums, Programme Boards, and HE Committee meetings Show less Supporting HE students with study skills such as information literacy, referencing, time management, essay writing, essay structure and presentation skills. Working closely alongside the teaching teams and the HE support team, I adapted the service to meet the demand of the learners. I ran weekly workshops that taught students aged 18+ skills in academic writing and research. I also supported the students in finding journals/books either online or in the library. Students alternatively sought support on a 1:1 basis where I provided a more personalised support plan according to the needs of the student. Show less

The community’s chair, who had been extremely active, had to step down. This meant we needed others to take on more of a role. Lisa was one of two leadership team members nominated in this category who seized the opportunity to take a lead. Her energy and willingness to help are an inspiration for others. One relationship manager has noted how Lisa’s work shows “a shift in the leadership team’s ownership of the community.” Show less
