  Worked under the direction of Dr. Young-Ki Jo, Associate Professor and Extension Specialist for Turfgrass & Rice. I prepared equipment and assisted three graduate students with research experiments in the laboratory. Additionally, I accompanied Dr. Jo on field trips out to rice farms, golf courses, and the Beaumont Research & Extension Center for field sampling and environmental analysis. Completed and presented research project on "Utilizing Koch's Postulates to Identify a Pecan Fungal Pathogen" at the Bioenvironmental Sciences High Impact Learning Experiences Annual Symposium in which my project earned Second Place Poster in the Undergraduate Research Category. These experiences developed my laboratory and field techniques, technical writing skills, and communication skills.As Student Worker, skills set included: 1) Field sampling techniques to prevent cross contamination of samples; 2) Analysis of field samples in the lab to obtain results that are reported back to clients; 3) Setting up field plot for sampling and analysis of environment; and 4) Sterilization techniques for working with microbes and chemicals in the laboratory.   Completed six credits of Bioenvironmental Sciences coursework during which I completed research project entitled "Will China and the United States of America Fire Coal by 2030?" Additionally, I explored Chinese culture through excursions, daily classroom interactions with Chinese university students, and cultural immersion classes in Mandarin, calligraphy, and Tai Chi. This experience enhanced my understanding of cultural differences and how they impact a country's resolution of environmental issues. Show less
