      May 2013 - Dec 2013

Throughout the week, I schedule one-on-one tutoring services with students. For two hours a week, I sit down with students with various disabilities and help them with a particular subject. We go over notes, create notecards, and study specific materials they are struggling in. This is a great way for them to create appropriate and suitable study habits to help them succeed. Currenly I tutor three different students in three different subjects: Economics 130, Accounting 201, and General Business: Law and Ethics 204. Show less As a Colonel Captain, I provide campus tours to incoming and visiting students& family members at EKU. I also have participated in call centers, where I phone potential students to discuss various opportunities EKU has to offer them. We also host various events throughout the year, such as Spotlight Days, where students visit campus to get a glimpse of the university as a whole. We also hold various other events to recruit students to EKU. There is also various office work that has been completed, such as mailing, filing, stuffing bags and envelopes, etc. Show less Over the summers, I worked Orientations for incoming Freshman and Transfers. I helped students create their schedules and get acquainted with EKU's campus and college life, while answering any questions and putting their (and their family's) worries at ease.I also worked Colonel Camp (a four day, three night camp) that is held partly off and partly on campus, that is a great way for new students to get an early start and vibe into college life. Bonding and leadership activities, along with educational and information tips and tricks for surviving college, all with the camp environment, has proven to assist new students in their graduation path.New Student Days are events held through the beginning of the semester that get students involved and acclimated to the whole EKU experience. Events such as Move-In Mania, Convocation, President's Picnic, and Family Weekend. Show less

The scholarship was dedicated to a former Woodford County High School student named Dusty Hicks. He was one of the all time best swimmers around, and one of the nicest guys you would ever meet. He had goals and even some promises of making it to the Olympics. One summer, he had a terrible accident while diving in a lake, and ended up paralyzed, crushing his dreams and ambitions for a swimming career. While he was having miraculous recovery, eventually he just couldn't handle it. He committed suicide. This was a devestation that affected the entire community. In honor of his life, the Hick's family created a scholarship in his name, worth $1,000. After answering questions and questions about my goals, aspirations, my role models, and my heroes, I was in awe when my name was called for the winner of this fantastic scholarship. This was the first and only Dusty Hick's scholarship ever to be awarded.
