      Collaborated with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) Office on Smoking and Health to develop of a series of user guides based on CDC's report, "Best Practices for Comprehensive Tobacco Control Programs."       The Public Policy Institute promotes the development of policies to address economic security, health care, and quality of life. As a Senior Analyst, I supported the AARP policy development process and created original research publications and data visualization tools on a variety health care issues pertinent to healthy aging. Specifically: Authored research papers, fact sheets, blogs, and infographics describing insights gained from research. Publications have been cited by articles in peer-reviewed journals, such as the New England Journal of Medicine.Developed a research initiative examining the use of clinical preventive services and the prevalence of key health risk factors. Identified evidence-based strategies to increase use of clinical preventive services & reduce disparities. Designed a custom data visualization tool for stakeholders to track use of preventive services and prevalence of risk factors by insurance status, race/ethnicity, income, and education across states. Tools and research were praised by the American Society on Aging. Findings were presented in numerous ways, including Medicaid expansion amicus brief, a briefing with the Alliance for Health Reform to national policymakers, and published research reports. Resulted in media coverage.Conducted statistical analyses of large national health databases (e.g., ACS and CPS) to inform research, policy, and advocacy. Managed the Health Security Team’s updates to the AARP Policy Book, a guide of the organization's advocacy and support for specific bills and regulations.Managed a large database for AARP’s new data visualization website (AARP DataExplorer). Served as a member of a team developing communications & media strategy. Co-managed PPI’s Twitter (@AARPpolicy) account.
