It exposes students to a variety of medical professions and the social determinants of health. It also helps them create a research project about health disparities in New JerseyResearched a public health crisis(Lead Poisoning) in Newark, New Jersey.   International Public Health Intern

  The International Public Health Internship Program is a nine-month global health program that targets vulnerable populations living in sub-Sarahan Africa. Interns will work with project managers and health care professionals in Bauchi, Nigeria. Working together, interns will develop and implement public health campaigns that target major health concerns such as immunization, reproductive health, adolescent health, food and nutrition, child health, drugs, food hygiene and safety, control of Malaria, and HIV/ AIDS.Through the Leadership Initiatives Program, I worked with four other high school students across central and eastern United States in the public health program. This school term, our goal was to fundraise $750 and build a public health facility in Bauchi, Nigeria. This fundraising happened on the GlobalGiving donation page. The Guru community in Bauchi is one of the most vulnerable communities to malnutrition. We set weekly Skype calls with Guru community heads in schools and nurses to gauge this issue. After completing surveys to share with Bauchi community members, we collaborated with a Hausa translator to have clear and effective communication. Our plans were to create flyers and workshops with elementary school students in clients in hospitals to share resources on improving public health. We also built a website to share with the Guru community we are working with. Show less

  Research Assistant at SASH Lab

  The SASH Lab at Yale is focused on conducting and disseminating strengths-based youth substance use and HIV prevention research. Our mission involves creating programs and solutions that are tailored for specific communities and youth of color.As a research assistant at the Substances and Sexual Health Lab under Dr.Ijeoma Opara, I provide assistance with data collection and analysis both quantitative and qualitatively. I also provide support with Lab's social media presence. Conduct literature reviews for manuscripts and lab articles. Show less
