      As one of the nation’s leading student organizations and one of London’s largest not-for-profit ($30 million dollar operating budget), the University Students’ Council represents and provides services to over 35,000 undergraduates. I served as a member of the senior leadership team, providing strategic direction and setting long-term goals for 60+ full-time staff, 300+ part-time staff and 200+ volunteersIn my role I oversaw and led the following pieces: - Oversaw and supported 17 large student run services/programs including social justice, human rights events and awareness-based programming in order to create a more inclusive campus.- Hired, trained and led a team of 24 staff to implement campus-wide programming by providing logistical, financial, and leadership support.- Worked collaboratively with university stakeholders to carry out the goals of Western’s Orientation Strategic Plan by directly leading one of the largest Orientation programs in Canada with 6,000 participants and 800 residence and faculty volunteer leaders, implementing training and programming that tackled issues such as consent, self care, and student safety. - Oversaw the Western Clubs system, consisting of 220 clubs and over 10,000 unique student members, by supporting over 800 student leaders in conflict resolution, governance and student support. Streamlined processes for club leaders by cutting red tape. - Managed a programming budget of over $500,000 while supporting over $750,000 of other programming on campus, while being held accountable by a Council and a Board of Directors. Managed to stay under budget while having record attendance numbers for a number of concerts and large scale speaking events.- Acted as the Executive Director of the Peer Support Centre, overseeing 50 students in the service delivery of mental health supports, facilitation groups, and crisis intervention across campus. Increased utilization of the services by over 25% with clear and targeted advertising. Show less The USC is one of the largest student unions in Canada. Working in their programming department, I had the chance to plan and implement a wide variety of events and work with a wide variety of student leaders on campus. As Associate, Programming, my tasks included but were not limited to the following pieces: - Led and oversaw 7 student staff and over 100 volunteers- Managed over $100,000 in programming- Worked creatively and effectively with teams to help plan programming and reach overarching goals of the organization- Assisted in the planning and implementation of campus wide programming including large scale concerts, speaking events, Beerfest, Carnivals and many others- Supported the student leaders within the organization- The 7 programs that landed directly under my supervision were: The Early Outreach childcare program, Charity Western, Charity Ball, EnviroWestern, Income Tax Clinic program, Public Arts program, Theatre Western Show less The Reach Conference is a youth leadership conference for at-risk grade 8 students in the greater London area. Our goal is to positively impact youth in the broader London community, by introducing them to post-secondary opportunities through which they can explore their passions, challenge limiting beliefs, and realize their potential in an inclusive and supportive environment.My responsibilities included:- Promoting the values of the Reach Conference to partner organizations and the London community- Assisting with all aspects of the conference, including but not limited to: leadership development, financing, program development, communications and marketing- Recruited, selected and lead an executive team of ten individuals.       - Supervise 13 Section Directors and 60+ counsellors who directly oversee our 500 campers with varying levels of comfort in a camp setting. Facilitate crisis resolution and take lead with campers who have exceptional needs. - Support/Manage the day-to-day operations of the Tawingo Outdoor Centre, which includes facility support of nearly 250 acres, programming and leadership development, and balancing the needs of different clients (school boards, community groups, companies, family camps).- Lead staff of varying experience levels in creating an inclusive and welcoming environment through message delivery and reinforcement in one-on-one and group settings, including writing and enforcing policy and operating procedures. - Assist with change management, changing culture and helping young staff understand and buy in to culture and policy changes, often dealing with sensitive material. Major changes include gender inclusivity initiatives, consent training, and identification of cultural appropriation. - Program for vulnerable populations in partnership with third party organizations (Right to Play, Me to We, Indigenous Sport & Wellness). Focused on ensuring that the material and leadership style is culturally appropriate and works towards the goals laid out in government funding.- Develop curriculum-based programming and risk mitigation strategies in consultation with schools outdoor education policies, and organizations operating procedures. - Work with and ensure we as an operation are compliant with multiple sets of standards and regulations including but not limited to OPHEA and OCA standardsWorked at Tawingo in the summer/spring months from 2011-2016 in various capacities. Show less The Tawingo Leadership Course is a full summer, 10 week course with 40 participants. The participants live on site at Camp Tawingo in Huntsville and undergo a variety of training. This training can be anything from leadership sessions, to practical placements, to mock experiences. As director of the course, I had the pleasure of supporting and training the 40 participants along with my co-leader. - Support the campers as they progress through the course and as they transition from participant to leader over 10 weeks- Teach and model a camper centered philosophy that allows Camp Tawingo as a whole to succeed in their goal of "Having fun building great kids" - Plan and implement leadership sessions, risk management sessions and sessions involving how staff can best support the development of our leaders- Assist with the overall leadership of the Tawingo staff team- Work collaboratively with other leaders to program and lead our campers towards their best summer yetI had the pleasure of taking on this role during the summer of 2016 as well. Redesigned meeting processes to ensure that the strategic vision of Campus Housing was present during logistical meetings. - Work with senior leadership on initiatives involving budget management, hiring, strategic planning, and capital project design. - Ensure efficiencies across the organization, working with our After-Hours maintenance team. Rebuilt scheduling and tracking processes to have staff be more involved in the creation process and increase overall efficiency and tracking in the organization. Spent large portion of each week getting to know workflow and working directly with staff to ensure that future planning made sense. - Work with departments cross-functionally to ensure the division as a whole is having a positive impact on students. Common topics include high level mental health support, or crisis situations on campus. - Collaborate with team members to create and lead ongoing professional development opportunities for students, including but not limited to feedback delivery, small group facilitation skills, and future career preparation. - Oversee creation, assessment, and implementation of training within the Residence Life program. Leading training for over 100 dons each quarter as well as developing feedback processes for the wider Campus Housing student staff team. - Oversee, develop, and lead the implementation of the Campus Housing Team Leader program.
