    • Northrop Grumman

      Jun 2005 - Sept 2005
      Mechanical Engineering Intern

      Maintained CAD and part libraries.

    • Hologic (Formerly Gen-Probe)

      Jun 2006 - Sept 2006
      Hardware Engineer Intern

Analyzed the performance of prototype subsystems belonging to an automated diagnostic system for pathogens found in body fluids. Performed analysis and recommended design changes for maintaining uniform temperatures in an incubator.

    • UCSD Nanoengineering Department

      Sept 2006 - Jun 2007
      Undergraduate Research and Test Engineer

Assisted in novel research of multi-directional growth of carbon nanotubes (CNT) for several technological applications such as field emission displays and atomic force microscope probe tips. Assisted with the research of various growth conditions, catalysts, and growing surfaces of CNT.

    • Hologic (Formerly Gen-Probe)

      Jun 2007 - Sept 2007
      Hardware Engineer Intern

Analyzed the performance of prototype subsystems belonging to an automated diagnostic system for pathogens found in body fluids. Performed analysis and recommended design changes for controlling the dispensing properties of a robotic pipettor arm.

    • UC San Diego

      Sept 2007 - Jun 2009
      Teaching Assistant

Taught basic principles of both polymer fracture mechanics and airfoil aerodynamic properties. Guided students in a fluids engineering experiment using the UCSD undergraduate lab wind tunnel to find the lift and drag properties of an airfoil at different wind velocities and angles of attack. Also, guided students in a material testing engineering lab using a hydraulic load frame to understand the fracturemechanics and viscoelastic properties of various polymers. Throughout instruction, ensured that students safely conducted and understood the experiment. Show less

    • California Institute for Telecommunications and Information Technology

      Jan 2009 - Apr 2010
      Development Engineer

Designed and built several electric vehicles and platforms along-side a team of mechanical, communication, and electrical engineers for wireless and communications research. Platforms include an autonomous powered glider for data collection via IEEE 802.11 (Wi-Fi) ad-hoc mesh networks and a low cost underwater modem for marine mesh network research. Performed primary design, characterization, and fabrication of a low-cost ceramic piezoelectric transducer for use in underwater environments. Transducer was designed around Calit2’s transceiver for electrical to mechanical conversion efficiency. Additionally, designed and fabricated various packages, test fixtures, and hardware to support wireless and communications research. Show less

    • Quartus Engineering, Inc.

      May 2010 - Jun 2015
      Project Engineer

Mechanical engineer designing and supporting mechanical and opto-mechanical system based projects. Projects include:Optical Metrology: Developed metrology modules and precision alignment tooling critical to the operation of high energy EUV light sources used for next generation semiconductor manufacturing. Efforts spanned pre-proposal concept generation through production module post-delivery customer support.Defense: Developed laser based mid-wave Infrared Countermeasures systems for Aircraft Survivability Equipment, one of which won a large Army contract for a prime client. Efforts included implementation of proprietary laser source modules in airborne packages with stringent pointing stability requirements across severe temperature, pressure, and vibe environments. Laser units were designed with active thermal management systems to maintain optical, mechanical, and electrical stability. Project matured from proposal design to fully operating flight-qualifiable units. Satellite Sensor: Lead opto-mechanical engineer for a geosynchronous satellite payload. Responsible for primary mechanical sensor subsystems including cryogenic optical sensor, cryocooler system, stray light baffle, and thermal enclosure. Collaborated with analysts to validate optical, thermal, and structural performance.Large Ground Based Telescopes: Lead engineer for the detailed design of a WM Keck Observatory mirror segment grinding tool and the preliminary design for an adaptive optics bench thermal enclosure. Enclosure designed to cool individual heat sources and limit thermal gradients for optical stability and reduction of thermal perturbations. Developed the baseline design for a TMT Secondary Mirror Cell Assembly Planning Study. Collaborated with analysts to optimize support locations and minimize wave front errors, including print through and self-weight deflection. Design incorporated kinematic mounting, counterbalancing, and flexural mounting principles. Show less
