  This project sought weed management improvements in rice cropping systems, as noxious, herbicide-resistant weed species (such as Cyperus difformis, commonly named Smallflower Umbrella Sedge) increasingly threat the rice industry and food production worldwide.My research project aimed at assessing weed infestation on alternative rice establishment systems. Fields under this new weed control approach (called "the stale seedbed technique") are water flushed on the very beginning of the growing season to promote weed germination, and then sprayed with glyphosate. Rice is then seeded at this cleaner condition. Show less
