      Therapeutic Support Staff

Responsibilities include working with a team of supervisors to better improve the lives of children with mental disabilities. I enjoyed working in the school setting, helping the child to improve and learn skills that will help them maintain on task and focus on the task at hand. It was essential to maintain the child in the ongoing activity while displaying minimal disruptive behaviors in the classroom. Duties also involved interventions in the home setting; modeling appropriate parent behavior, discipline, interactions, and engaging the child in appropriate interactions with siblings and household members. During the summer months of 2007 and 2008, I participated in a ‘Summer Camp’ that was geared towards ADHD-diagnosed children. I was a camp counselor and group leader as well as a sports coach. Summer camp was a highly effective means of teaching the children to follow a set schedule, appropriate peer interactions, and abiding by rules and having appropriate consequences for their negative behaviors.
