    • Common Ground

      Jul 2022 - Jun 2023
      Founder

A Middle Ground spin-off, Common Ground is a project started by highschool students which helps bring new perspectives on controversial topics to the table. In the format of a panel discussion, Common Ground tries to gather a group of people, each with varying experiences and a unique opinion on the topic at hand, and as the discussion progresses, they try to reach a common ground with the panellists of opposing beliefs. Each episode brings forth a topic and six panellists, each of whose views can be classified into two categories of opposing views. Controversial topics are often brought up in order to give the panellists an opportunity to discuss their opinions on matters that aren’t talked about enough. A range of views and opinions is exchanged, and each panellist gets an opportunity not only to explain why they have a certain opinion but also a chance to question their opinions after listening to the opposing side. This results in a common consensus amongst panellists, and it tells us that not everything is black and white and that there are always multiple lenses through which a situation can be looked at, thus reaching a common ground.
