      Avalanche Skills Instructor, Tailguide

As a tail guide for the Cat skiing operation at Revelstoke Mountain Resort and at STHS I help to make snowpack and weather observations while assisting guides to keep the program running smoothly and on time. As part of the guiding team I am involved in am and pm meetings reviewing hazard assessments and presenting information and observations gathered during the day. In the STHS workplace, tail guides facilitate the technical part of the meetings and submit the groups findings into the information exchange Show less

      Apr 2016 - now

I facilitate and coordinate incident response for Fire, Search, and Rescue within the National Parks and Park Reserves in the southern part of Canada’s Northwest Territories. In this role, I consult with, and advise management on policy, guidelines, and directives. I train and mentor staff in incident command, managing human wildlife coexistence/ conflict, wildfire assessment, and other operational skills such as jet boat piloting and firearm safety. I have also held a place on a national fire incident management team. Parks' Fire management programme strives to suppress wildfires in critical locations such as near buildings, highways and visitor areas. In other areas of the Canadian Parks system, fires are allowed or prescribed to burn. Often they can grow in accordance with predetermined geographical and scientific objectives. The management of which requires excellent planning, communication, tactical ignition and physical effort. Show less
