  Our team is currently studying the enzyme BA0150 which is involved in the defensive mechanisms against host immune cells for class A bioterrorism agents. The goal of the research is to inhibit the enzyme via site-directed mutagenesis in order to hinder the defensive mechanisms of an array of bacteria which would allow for further antibiotics production. Techniques and procedures utilized include lab safety, cell growth procedures, buffer preparation, cell lysing by sonication, and protein expression and purification including gel electrophoresis. I have presented this research at Christopher Newport University and the University of Virginia. Show less

  Clinical Research Assistant

  Undergraduate students are chosen by their institution and paired with a sponsor faculty member to take part in a cardiovascular research project. The program offered insights to the conduct of translational multi-disciplinary cardiovascular research. Cardiovascular disease research skills were developed through experiential learning with the goal of applying this experience to future research opportunities and post-graduate careers. At the culmination of the fellowship, I presented a poster on the "Development of an Animal Model of Trauma-Induced Coagulopathy Using Serially Factor Deficient Blood Transfusions". Show less
