  As a proud alumnus of the NASA Community College Aerospace Scholars (NCAS) program for the 2020-21 cohort, I engaged in a comprehensive research project during the initial phase in October 2020. I chose to delve into the intriguing realm of NASA's In-Situ Resource Utilization (ISRU) capabilities, focusing specifically on the Research Prospector mission (RP) and the closed-loop ionic liquid (IL) reprotonization process.During the virtual "on-site" experience in March 2021, I collaborated within a dynamic team of twelve to develop a mission concept centered around a lunar habitat situated at the Schrödinger basin. In my capacity as the Instrument Engineer, I conducted both qualitative and quantitative research on a diverse array of science instruments crucial to the success of the envisioned mission. This included extensive exploration of radiation sensors, neutron spectrometer systems, portable x-ray fluorescence spectrometers, infrared cameras, RASSOR mining robots, life sciences laboratories, Advanced Resistive Exercise Devices (ARED), magnetometers, and water purification technologies.The rationale behind researching these specific instruments was twofold. Firstly, it aimed at enhancing the protection of human explorers from space radiation, a critical consideration for future lunar endeavors. Secondly, the comprehensive study of these instruments was instrumental in identifying ways to significantly reduce mission costs. This reduction is achievable by harnessing minerals and resources through mining and exploration, thereby promoting self-sufficiency and establishing sustainable habitats on the Lunar Surface.
