I was responsible for day to day testing on biocidal products from external companies with a focus on surface and suspension testing. During my time there I was also responsible for creating external reports for customers and general lab maintenance. The testing i was taught and carried out at this placement included:BSEN 13697BSEN 1276BSEN 1040BSEN 1650BSEN 1275BSEN 13704During my time there I also worked with a range of bacteria and pathogenic organisms including C Diff and E coli O157. My time there was also used to develop a new product for medical areas called Diff X, the data generated by myself and the other lab staff was then used in a paper for the Journal for infection control. Routine testing of treated and untreated water samples to ensure that wholesome water is provided to a large customer base via several biological techniques. I worked in verity of areas which allowed me to expand my knowledge gained at university. My key areas of work were Sludge and raw effluent, ensuring that the waste treated by Thames water was safe for release or resale and in the clean water side of the business I preformed testing using the IDEXX method for identifying coli-form contamination and membrane filtration for other organisms. The clean water part of the microbiology department included report writing and liaising with both internal and external customers to pass on results of tests carried and to notify failures to the correct areas of the business. Here i learnt the basics of UKAS tractability and how 17025 is implemented in a business. Show less
