  Doctoral research targeted at design of substrate specific consortium for improved anaerobic digestion process using insights derived from qualitative and quantitative analysis of the natural consortium present in anaerobic digesters. Qualitative analysis involved Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) to study microbial community dynamics. Isolations of specific anaerobic microbes were carried out based on knowledge gained form NGS analysis. Simultaneously, different methods like fluorescence microscopy, flow cytometry and RT-PCR were explored for quantitative analysis of microbes. Show less
