Smudge issues have many potential root causes, including the paper machines, mill rewinding, mill handling and shipping, transportation, APN receiving and handling, and APN sheeting, so identifying and fixing smudge root causes is like finding a needle in a haystack or a Sherlock Holmes case. Jeff, you have helped develop and implement processes to audit and collect valuable information for APN team. You communicate with your department as well as other departments that have been impacted by this change. One of the biggest challenges the team faced was localized damage that was a result of bypassing the wrapper at Spring and introducing down-ending at the Appleton Plant. For months, team members chased the damage – and often became frustrated. Jeff, you and your co-workers ran many experiments trying to create and simulate the damaging we were seeing. You interviewed people, took pictures, tested theories and basically never gave up. Your efforts resulted in our ability to rule out causes. Jeff, you and your manager, Craig Delfosse, were able to use all the information collected from experiments, picture and non-conformances to narrow in on a defect profile. That feedback was sent to Spring and Robb Roberston was able to follow the path of the product and use samples to find one of our most reoccurring defects. Robb, you and your handlers have previously looked for issues, but focused more around the upender area. When the call came in to look around Spring mill again, you again worked with your roll handlers and inspected each of the trucks that can move pallets – knowing you were looking for something small. That is when the backed-out bolt was found. Jeff and Robb, your efforts are truly appreciated by the entire team. Thanks again!! Matt Denton and team Show less
