      Although ill-timed, I was honored to be appointed as a Flight Commander at the Portuguese Air Force Academy. The direct contact with cadets means this role is usually reserved to the officers who display high levels of leadership, discipline, initiative and comradeship.My core responsibilities included (but were not limited to);- Prepare Cadets for leadership roles in both the cadet wing and in the Portuguese Air Force through a firm foundation in military strategy, doctrine, heritage and professionalism;- Develop in the Cadets communication skills, instructional roles and responsibilities of an officer through military education, officer development and airmanship.- Provide command guidance and supervise all training, planning, and execution of flight operations;- Serve as an ambassador by representing the flight on/off campus and brief visiting dignitaries on the status on the flight;- Promote esprit-de-corps and responsible for implementation of the cadet mentorship and sponsorship program. Voir moins After serving as a Visiting Professor for nearly 4 years, I was made Assistant Research Professor in Aerodynamics.My core responsibilities included (but were not limited to);- Design course curriculum for high learning assurance and multi-class uniformity;- Develop and manage syllabus materials;- Train instructional specialists;- Coordinate courseware and curriculum with faculty chair.In light of my PhD program, I also assisted in the ongoing Unmanned Aerial Systems research at the Portuguese Air Force R&D Center, primarily in the areas of Flight Testing and Stability&Control. The P-3 aircraft is the most complex system operated by the Portuguese AF, and I was happy to join such a challenging environment. Furthermore, there was an ongoing Capabilities Upgrade Program where both Lockheed Martin and the US Navy were deeply involved.I started out as a structural and propulsion engineer and carved my way up to Deputy Fleet Manager. My responsibilities included Aircraft Maintenance Management, Continuing Airworthiness Management, Lean Maintenance & Lean Logistics Promotor, Supply Chain Management, Procurement and Purchasing Management, Engineering Management & Support and Budget Management.My biggest achievement in this position was a custom made maintenance program (close collaboration with US Navy and Lockheed Martin) that allowed: - Increase in P-3P operational life (ACI); - Increase in P-3 Fleet operational readiness (33% better over a 3 year period) - Decrease in P-3C operational cost (7M€ in 5 years) (ASPA).       Technical Translator

      Being bilingual (Portuguese and French) and fully proficient in English (STANAG 6001 NATO 4+ level, where 5 is for Native speakers), I have been working with the Portuguese Board of Engineers on the translation of technical documents and publications.       I served as the Accountable Manager for the CAMO and P145 organizations of FTE, including FSTDO. For the first time, my 25+ team were not my military subordinates - they were exceptional people from different backgrounds, ages and countries.Together, we managed to grow from 15.000FH/year in 2016 to over 33.000FH in 2019, performing over 100 flight events a day. The team grew to over twice its initial size - applying Lean Maintenance principles reduced MH/FH ratio by over 20% and increased fleet availability from 60% to 75% by optimizing the workflow and the supply chain. A new fleet was introduced and an old fleet was modernized.I grew and learned a lot, whilst having a fantastic time in Jerez, although I did leave a chunk of my heart behind with my team. And Oman, this little corner of paradise, with its amazingly generous and welcoming people, sealed the deal.
