      Athlete and performance monitoring technologies are now commonplace in sport practice and research. The use of GPS and microsensors technology has become an integral part of sporting performance analysis, allowing coaches and support staff to assess, quantify and better understand the physical demands of training and competition on team sport athletes. The use of GPS and microsensors technology has become an integral part of sporting performance analysis, allowing coaches and support staff to assess, quantify and better understand the physical demands of training and competition on team sport athletes. The reason for such interest resides in the need to improve and individualise the design of training and exercise programs to maximise the improvements in athletic performance and avoid over-training and overreaching. There is a need for further research in Gaelic Games to explore the sports science and sports coaching nexus to better support the players and management in their roles and functions. Show less

The programme incorporated sociological, historical and political aspects of sport as well as the vocational areas of physical education, sports development, sports coaching and management. While the science subjects studied include physiology, biomechanics, psychology and nutrition etc.This programme offered a significant number of sports graduates the opportunity to study the PGCE in Physical Education, or pursue other postgraduate qualifications both at the University of Ulster and at other institutions in the UK and abroad. Completing this degree, equipped me to undertake a growing number of postgraduate courses in Sport, Sports Science or Education. Opportunities for MPhil/DPhil level studies were also available for those who demonstrated the requisite abilities. Show less

My primary responsibility was to integrate and implement the organisation, co-ordination and development of specific programmes towards the promotion and the development of Gaelic Games in the County, this also included liaising with and incorporating the Ulster Council and Croke Park.Within the remit of a Coaching and Games Development Officer my main duties included planning, co-ordination and (where relevant) the implementation of all coaching activities within the schools sector, underage clubs as well as assisting with the running and management of summer camps and development squads.       As a Coach Education and Safeguarding in Sport Tutor, I am responsible in planning, delivering and coordinating Coach Education programmes which focuses on continuing education, so that coaches can improve by means of a series of specifically designed courses, workshops and conferences incorporating internationally recognised principles of best practice. These opportunities include a combination of theoretical and practical inputs and allow for the use of digital and e-learning techniques. I work closely with the Ryan Cup, Dr McKenna Cup and Sigerson Cup panel to integrate scientific and practical skills in performance analysis; analysis of game demands; use of performance analysis tools, such as GPS and video analysis technology to analyse individual and team performances.
