In my MS research work, an attempt was made to predict the sonic behavior in carbonate rocks on the basis of petrophysical analysis. About fifty randomly separated wells were selected in Michigan basin to study the Traverse Limestone. About fifty randomly separated wells were selected in Michigan basin to study the Traverse Limestone. This formation consists of limestone with shale as significant lithology while local dolomitization and chert play a role in some areas. I used different conventional approaches to determine the lithology both in term of quality and quantity, and attempted some modifications in these approaches. I applied the results from lithological analysis to porosity logs, correcting for shale or secondary porosity to generate pseudo-sonic logs. In particular, Wylie’s Time Average equation was modified to account for the shale volume, dolomite volume, and secondary porosity of the rock. Sonic response was predicted by using different conventional and modified equations and their results were compared using root mean square error with known sonic log values. Show less

In my BS senior design project, our group was provided with the seismic data from Bhal Syedan Area. We did the seimic interpretation of the data to look for the exploration target in the area if any. We manually picked the horizon, corrected for the misties and plotted the structural (both time and depth) contour map. Both structural maps were also prepared using Surfer. However, we could not do any other attribute analysis because the data were analog and we were not provided with the required… Show more In my BS senior design project, our group was provided with the seismic data from Bhal Syedan Area. Activities and Societies: Chair, the Graduate Students Government Academic Committee President, Geophysical Society at Michigan Technological University Secretary, Muslim Students Association In my PhD dissertation, I analyzed 4D seismic data from the Teal South Field of the Gulf of Mexico. Many small non-commercial neighboring reservoirs (not under production) were found in pressure communication with the main producing reservoir. Based on seismic attributes, changes in fluid phase and fluid migration path were proposed. Some of the 4D responses seen in the Teal South field were counter-intuitive for generally assumed isotropic reservoir conditions. Various rock-physics models were tested to explain the time-lapse observations. The work revealed that the main producing reservoir had developed changes in its isotropic conditions and has become anisotropic because of production induced compaction. It proposed appropriate attributes and parameters that can be very valuable in managing reservoirs and identifying untapped resources from time lapse seismic data. It also concludes that a simple isotropic model when applied to anisotropic conditions can be very misleading. Show less

My responsibilities were to collect the samples, analyze it, and report it. Besides this, I was also supposed to monitor the drilling activities via number of sensors installed at different locations; and to respond any anomalous behavior of the sensor so that any accidental damage could be avoided. At the end of the day, I was used to prepare the report describing the whole activity of the day.

      May 2012 - Aug 2014

This was a volunteer activity that I take as a pride. This role exposed me to various leadership and project planning & execution challenges. My key responsibilities as a chair was to arrange different workshop to support learning and career advancements for graduate students, support Job Fest, organize annual research colloquium, and represent campus graduate students at various administrative/managerial levels.Achievement:I have been able to successfully explain the concerns of graduate students with various proposed changes in university policies and fee-structure, avoiding any significant impact to current and prospective graduate students..I have been very successful in reaching to the students and engaging them in academic committee activities. 2012-2013 have the most successful year for the academic committee.Almost all workshops that I planned reach to their full capacity for the first time ever. The annual research colloquium saw too high turn-out that we ran out of resources, and we had to seek additional resources to accommodate all participants. The number of presenters for this colloquium increased by almost three times. Show less

      Petrophysics Intern

As an intern I worked on one of the BP's Gulf of Mexico assets to define the excessive energy support seen in some reservoirs of the field. Using available log, core and fluid data, I ran various rock physics models to understand the contribution of reservoir compressibility in addition to aquifer and gas cap support. Based on my work, I also defined the potential change in reservoir thickness caused by depletion over the life of the field.PS. In late 2013-2014, a 4D seismic over the field confirmed almost similar amount of thickness change as was concluded from my rock physics modelling work.. Show less
