      Coordinated all planning and evaluation work for Florida’s Nongame Wildlife Program, one of the largest programs of its kind in the nation. Assisted the Section Supervisor in budgeting, designing, and coordinating projects. Acted as the Nongame Wildlife Program Section Supervisor when the Supervisor was away. Conducted survey research and assisted in market research projects and other programs that incorporated human dimensions into wildlife conservation and management. Co-coordinated a major market research project that realigned the Commission’s nongame wildlife education efforts (see Duda, Cerulean, and Gillan, 1989). Delivered lectures at Division of Wildlife conferences addressing various aspects of working with the public. Co-coordinated planning and development of non-consumptive projects on Commission-owned wildlife management areas, a first step in orienting programs to a changing constituency. Coordinated the economic assessment of wildlife killed in an oil spill, the first time the state attempted to seek monetary restitution for wildlife killed as a result of such an event. Coordinated a major literature review of human attitudes toward wildlife and demographic and social trends in Florida (see Duda, 1987, below). Published 13 articles on various aspects of human dimensions in wildlife and survey research and planning, and delivered dozens of lectures at conferences and major universities including Yale University, Florida State University, the University of Florida, the University of Miami, and the University of South Florida. Show less Duties included a range of biological, planning, evaluation, public education, technical assistance, and coordination activities. Wildlife management and biological duties included assessing the impacts of black-tailed jackrabbits (an exotic species in Florida) on Florida’s environment and handling related technical assistance, including various nuisance animal issues and urban wildlife management practices. Social science duties included designing and conducting survey research projects on a variety of issues, including hunter satisfaction, waterfowl and turkey harvest, Floridians’ opinions on wildlife, and readership attitudes toward a wildlife magazine. Planning and evaluation duties included staff and program coordination, strategic and operational planning, developing the program’s annual report, and assisting the Planning Coordinator in budgeting. Developed and implemented a computerized Commission-wide library system, the first of its kind at the agency.       As executive director of Responsive Management, Mark executes all managerial duties required to run a multi-million-dollar business. In his capacity as executive director, Mark has directed more than 1,000 research studies on natural resource and outdoor recreation issues, entailing telephone, mail, and online surveys, focus groups, personal interviews, and public meetings. He supervises all phases of research management spanning project initiation through completion. He has presented Responsive Management’s research around the world and conducted over 200 conservation policy, communications, and market research workshops. Incorporated in 1990, Responsive Management has been conducting scientific survey and human dimensions research for 26 years, including projects in all 50 states and 15 countries worldwide, and totaling almost $60 million in research specifically on natural resource and outdoor recreation issues. Responsive Management has conducted projects for every state fish and wildlife agency, all of the federal resource agencies, most departments of natural resources, and most of the major non-governmental conservation organizations, including the National Wildlife Federation, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Ducks Unlimited, SCI, Dallas Safari Club, Trout Unlimited, the National Rifle Association, BoatUS, the National Shooting Sports Foundation, and many others. Business clients include outdoor recreation industry leaders such as Vista Outdoor (i.e., Bushnell, Primos, Federal Premium, etc.), Winchester, Trijicon, and Yamaha. Mark has also conducted survey research for the nation’s top universities, including Stanford University, Colorado State University, Rutgers University, Auburn University, Duke University, George Mason University, Michigan State University, Mississippi State University, North Carolina State University, Oregon State University, Penn State University, Texas Tech, University of Florida, Virginia Tech, and West Virginia University.
