  Employed for a season by Operation Wallacea, as general marine biologist and research assistant coordinator on Hoga Island, Indonesia. As general marine biologist, my responsibilities were primarily to aid and guide dissertation students with a range of different diving-based reef projects. Role also included organizing daily dive schedules for the 50+ dissertation students and liaising between staff and students.   Scientific Diver

  Employed on a three month contract working as a scientific diver on an extensive reef restoration project, taking place around the island of Praslin, in the Seychelles. The reefs around the island suffered severe coral mortality (>90%) as a result of a bleaching event associated with the 1998 El Nino event. The project focused on growing coral fragments using custom built nurseries, then transplanting corals directly onto areas of degraded reef. Tasks include; underwater maintenance of nursery structures, transplantation of corals onto degraded reefs, scientific monitoring and data analysis in the lab. Show less

  Dissertation Supervisor

  Supervisor for SCUBA based projects taking place in Akumal, Mexico, during the 2015 OpWall Season. As a dissertation supervisor, I was tasked with offering guidance and supervision to dissertation students during fieldwork.Also assisted in the running and supervision of a range of other marine based projects taking place on site. My roles included teaching high school students about various aspects of marine management and coral reef ecology, through hands-on education.

  At Oceans of Discovery we aim to provide Scuba diving training and Marine Education to individuals in a fun filled, safe environment conducive to learning. Scuba Training:We offer a wide range of PADI diving courses and experiences from our base in Fountainstown, Co. Cork. We offer a range of courses ranging from taster Discover Scuba Diving sessions to fully certified PADI certified courses (such as PADI Open Water, PADI Scuba Diver, PADI Advanced Open Water, EFR and PADI Rescue Diver). All courses run by a fully qualified PADI Instructor, with top of the range brand new equipment.Education:We offer educational workshops throughout the school term. Our aim is to run a series of interactive workshops for primary schools, transition years & interested groups across the region. We aim to introduce individuals to the incredible diversity and potential of our marine world. Workshops can be tailor made for specific groups, to include a combination of the following:1) Marine Education Workshops. 2) Discover SCUBA Diving/Snorkeling Experiences. 3) Emergency First Responder Training (Certified).   Fisheries Sampler

  I provide fisheries sampling services to the Marine Institute (MI) in Ireland. Initial role involves contacting owners of commercial fishing vessels to arrange sampling trips as instructed by the Marine Institute. A range of catch sampling data including; the identification & measuring of different species being caught and discarded are collected. This data is then be used to inform governing bodies of the condition of various fisheries and provide important data on discards at sea.
