      Jun 2022 - Dec 2022
      Pre-Registration Pharmacist

As a fresh Pharmacy graduate from NUS, I underwent 6 months of intensive training in NUH. Throughout my 6 months training, I learnt invaluable skills such as adaptability, resilience and perseverance. The training pushed the boundaries of my knowledge. What was taught in school was only a very small fraction of what was being practiced in the hospital. It was a trying and continuous cycle of brushing up my knowledge, learning new concepts and guidelines, and applying what I have learnt into practice. These few months of tedious studying and working has immensely broadened and deepened my understanding of pharmacology and pharmaceuticals, and has enabled me to learn things in more efficient and effective ways. My resilience was tested in overwhelming and time-sensitive situations. I learnt to make crucial decisions by tapping on what I have learnt throughout my training to make a safe and sound clinical decision. In the fast-paced hospital environment, I was constantly forced to shift my gears and continuously refresh my clinical knowledge to adapt to the changing clinical practice. I have also sought out feedback for my performance, and welcomed constructive criticism, knowing that these would go a long way in helping me to better myself and hone my hard and soft skills. Feb 2023 - Nov 2023
      Pharmacist

As an inpatient pharmacist, I work closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe and effective patient care. Throughout my career, I continuously strive to leverage on my interpersonal skills to ensure effective communication and good relationships with physicians, nurses and other allied healthcare staff. My key role as an inpatient pharmacist is to ensure that the medications given to patients in the hospital are indicated, accurate, safe and effective. On the daily, though I manage a ward on my own, I work very closely with my pharmacy colleagues, engaging in clinical discussions frequently on how to optimise care for our patients. I also work extremely closely with physicians, nurses, patients, and patient's families, so that I can continuously provide the most advanced and holistic care for the patient. I enjoy interacting with patients and listening to their stories, hence I make an effort to actively listen to their concerns and questions. This makes my patients feel heard and cared for on a personal level. As the bridge between physicians and patients, I have picked up the skill of adapting my listening and communication techniques to them. I prioritise using layman's terms to explain complex medication regimens, and use different languages to communicate with patients. Often, as patients can get overwhelmed and distressed, I insert humour to calm patients down before reassuring them that I am part of a multidisciplinary team who will always provide the most advanced treatment for patients. Overall, my work as an inpatient pharmacist has allowed me to develop and constantly apply exceptional interpersonal skills. By actively listening, communicating effectively and collaborating with healthcare providers, I am able to provide a positive and warm environment for both patients and my healthcare colleagues.
