      Climbing Instructor

      I worked as a volunteer climbing instructor at Lancaster University Sports Centre for 6 months. This served as an introduction to instructing and gaining the necessary experience required to achieve my Climbing Wall Instructor Qualification.This role required me to help in the running and management of children's sessions, with ages ranging from 7 to 16, and with abilities ranging from beginners to experienced climbers. This greatly developed my communication and management skills.

      Design Lead

      Working with an MBA lead from La Trobe University, along with a second Product Design student from Sheffield Hallam University, to collaborate and produce a proposal for a social media framework and rebranding of Lava eSports, Sheffield.This project was an extra-curricular pilot for the virtual transnational business and design challenge, culminating in a successful presentation to the client.

      Following the initial placement, I was given further responsibilities, the most major being:• Continuation of the development of the Kite Climbing Harness, ensuring it met two UKCA and CE standards, as well as a European regulation. This included the development of a system to be able to create the relevant documents such as manuals, technical documents, production drawings and declarations of conformity.• Begin a second redevelopment project for another major product, a postural support system with a focus on watersports.• Preparation to ensure Equal Adventure can meet and adhere to both an ISO standard and European regulation. • Involvement with multiple design projects, with scopes ranging from contracts with international-sized companies to bespoke customs for individuals.• Redesign and modernisation of the sewing and fabric area with the introduction of digitised patterns, CNC machines and ergonomic adjustments. Show less My initial placement with Equal Adventure consisted of a range of responsibilities, the most significant being:• The redesign of a Millennium Award Winning Product (Kite climbing harness), working on all aspects of the process from initial design modifications to ensuring conformity to the relevant industry standards.• Manufacturing, assembly, and development of all-terrain electric wheelchairs.• Small independent design projects to enable diversification and reduce material wasteThis experience demonstrated the benefits of interdisciplinary working and led to a year-long opportunity.
