It seems that we have traded one form of trickle down economics for another. Throughout the expansion, money trickled down from Wall Street. Now it trickles down from a government that prints money. One ramification of the credit freeze is that there is an oversupply of real estate, mortgages, and related assets. A goal of the AEA is to apply these assets toward growth in the developing world through microfinance loans. This would provide a mechanism that more directly stimulates growth and banking system reliquification. This may be done with no government funding. Microcredit is an instance of a financing technique on a scale that moves toward the infinitesimal, thus invigorating small-scale enterprise. Equity distributed infinitesimally would also invigorate economic growth. Microshares may be structured as shares of common stock which are sold to the public in conjunction with merchandise or services sales, or sold upon signing a contract to purchase goods or services in the future. We call microshares issued over the Internet cybershares. The AEA modeled the evolution of an economy that employs microshares. Initially, 40% of the population lives at subsistence level or lower. After microshares are introduced, the economy evolves, and the subsistence level drops to 18%. The simultaneous application of microcredit and microshares would help thaw the credit freeze and stimulate global economic growth. Show less
