  Hardware Computing Intern

  I explored the different registration techniques used in Augmented Reality. I also worked to create a proof of concept AR application which could help engulf the user more in the program to help bridge the gap between the real and virtual world. Our proof of concept application was recreating the game Snake in augmented reality where the user could control the snake avatar using an IMU. The marker used for tracking and registration (ARToolKit) was also covered by a graphic created through scene detecting algorithm with intent to visualize the marker as not being there. Show less

  Electrical Reliability Engineer

  I initially started out in the Mechanical Integrity / Quality Assurance group as an electrical engineering resource. I have since been moved into the Reliability group (June 2013). I am heavily involved using the reliability analysis tool, Meridium, for calibration manager, worst actor reports and Weibull growth plots on the key bad actors in each area.I coordinated the effort to conduct infrared electrical scans in-house and received Level I training. I, along with 2 mechanics, have begun scanning motor starters and transformers looking for anomalies. From our current infrared scans we estimated to have a provided cost avoidance of over $300,000 through certain starters corrected and low oil levels captures on 3kVA transformers.Other PdM programs I oversee are the site's vibration program and oil analysis program. These programs generate predictive maintenance work order's tracked month to month to fix an issue before a catastrophic failure exists. I recently led the effort to install a fully functional lubrication room on-site.This room houses and filters incoming oils to 3-microns. I received my Machine Lubrication Technologist (MLT) Level I certification in August 2013.I work variously on projects within our MOC system and conduct MIQA reviews on electrical COD's. Recently I worked on sizing the electrical requirements for a new 30 ton HVAC unit. I'm also working on a project to upgrade obsolete photoelectric sensors in one area. I recently conducted a lifecycle cost analysis on a major production unit proving it would be optimal to conduct a major repair vs repairing as needed.I am the lead of the electrical safety team at the site where we raise awareness about electrical hazards and ensure we are operating as safely and efficiently as possible while within all regulations. I am also the site's health and wellness coordinator, promoting a healthy lifestyle through various events/activities. Show less

  Electrical and Instrumentation Engineer

  As the Instrumentation and Electrical (I&E) Manufacturing Engineer for the site, my daily responsibilities revolved around ensuring uninterrupted plant operations by promptly addressing any instrumentation or electrical issues that arose.Additionally, I lead the electrical safety team, dedicated to fostering a safe working environment for all employees. Our focus included conducting audits and procedural checks to identify areas for improvement and recommending necessary upgrades to enhance the electrical safety program.I spearheaded longer-term improvement projects, such as upgrading or replacing obsolete equipment. Notably, I managed projects to replace outdated Allen Bradley 1336 Plus II Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) with modern Powerflex 753 models, which involved specifying the correct VFDs, cables, and communication protocols to integrate with our ABB Distributed Control System (DCS).Furthermore, I was actively involved in replacing and upgrading failing or obsolete instrumentation across the site's process equipment, particularly focusing on temperature, level, pressure, and flow instruments. I also contributed to site expansion projects by specifying new instruments and electrical loads aligned with the company's strategic objectives.In terms of maintenance, I was deeply engaged in preventative tasks for E&I equipment and served as the site chairman for critical isolation valves, establishing requirements for periodic leak tightness checks and overhauls in accordance with ANSI/FCI 70-2 standards.Moreover, I hold Level I infrared certification through the Snell Group and conduct annual infrared scans of our electrical distribution equipment and controls to identify potential issues proactively.As a spokesperson for pre-startup reviews in our Process Safety Management (PSM) program, I managed the associated standards and guidelines, and regularly reported on metrics for recently completed projects.   As the overseer of the area maintenance team within one of Eastman Indian Orchard’s processing units, I managed a group consisting of three electrical and instrument technicians and seven mechanics. My duties entailed scheduling and assigning daily tasks during routine operations, as well as orchestrating maintenance activities during scheduled turnarounds for the site. Additionally, I oversaw E&I engineering projects specific to this area.Noteworthy Achievement:- Our team successfully completed a 21-day turnaround, during which we replaced two process vessels and upgraded associated piping and valves. Under my leadership, the maintenance team executed over 2000 hours of scheduled work and addressed over 500 hours of reactive tasks without any safety incidents. Furthermore, I personally supervised the E&I aspects of the vessel replacement project, ensuring its timely completion within budget constraints. Show less I oversaw electrical & instrumentation on a variety of capital projects. The largest being replacing 4 process vessels in a 6 week turnaround. I led the planning and estimating of the project for E&I and then supervised a daily crew of technicians the entire shutdown to complete the project on time. Along with removing and disconnecting all instrumentation, we installed a new DeviceNet communication platform and upgraded 67 actuated valves to this new standard. This reduced voltage from 120 to 24, freed up 150+ I/O points, allowed for individual valve isolation and replaced obsolete solenoid valves that are bad actors during the winter months. My responsibilities spanned from conceptualizing and managing capital projects to conducting plant upkeep and troubleshooting maintenance issues.Key Accomplishments:- Lead E&I engineer on greenfield construction project for a new Aluminum Sulfate plant.
