Quantitatively graded chemicals on a variety of scales used by federal and international regulatory bodies. Helped to develop a database of Canadian businesses and industries using such chemicals. Analyzed studies used by the reference articles to appraise their scientific validity.

  Junior Standards Engineer

  The standards department is responsible for making sure all nuclear facilities at Chalk River Labs are up to international standards. My group focused on identifying, labeling, and standardizing parts critical to the safe operation of the National Research Universal (NRU) reactor. As this reactor provides medical isotopes, visits to the reactor hall were done during full power operation, necessitating a good deal of nuclear safety training and competence. Duties included both physical asset location/tagging as well as entry of these assets into a company-wide, digital Master Equipment List. I received official training on NRU systems when available, and took opportunities to view other reactors and systems that were on-site. Show less

  Worked in the QC Department in-field, supervising site construction of three 10MW solar farms, one from start to finish. Responsible for Project Management including timeline management, resource allocation, tracking and reporting to meet target dates. Liaised between head offices in Toronto and California and the on-site contractors. Ensured QC targets were met by direct in-field inspection of completed infrastructure, comparing it to engineering drawings and government regulation. Rectified and/or reported noncompliance.   Performed a variety of tasks refinishing metalworking rolls (this included surface grinding, microtexturing, electroplating with chromium, and Quality Control). Operated and maintained overhead beam cranes, electroplating rectifiers, a polishing and grinding machine, and an electro-discharge texturing (EDT) machine. Sampled and maintained the proper chemistry of a hexavalent chromic acid plating solution. Use, calibration, and maintenance of surface-contact profilometers sensitive to a thousandth of an inch. Assisted in the repair and overhauling of the EDT machine and electroplating tank. Updated documentation to comply with ISO 9001 standards and changes in processes. Show less
