      Officer responsible for selection, training and leadership of soldiers within the Battalion's reconnaissance and sniper platoon. Motivation and leadership of teams providing surveillance, information and analysis to the Commanding Officer in arduous, demanding conditions, by day and night in all weather conditions.Role included implementing Commanding Officer's training directive's and producing training programmes to deliver operationally effective organisation able to conduct a variety of bespoke tasks. The immediate line management of 40 specialist trained soldiers and the forecasting of their future training and career plans. Management and maintenance of a fleet of 8 armoured fighting vehicles and their associated lethal effects and communications equipment. Show less

      Training Officer (SO3) Close Reconnaissance

      Officer responsible for training, safety and mentoring of Close Reconnaissance Platoons within the context of a 1000 man armoured force.Planned and executed a training programme in the live and simulated environment across the Canadian Prairie. Provided the 'customer' with demanding, complex, flexible and appropriate field training to develop their tactical ability as a surveillance asset. Following training serials, delivered 'After Action Review' feedback on performance using a variety of digital and qualitative sources. Period in appointment included redesign of training evolution and progression from first principles to deliver a Recce Platoon ready to embark on training for operations in Afghanistan or contingency. Throughout this period managed and motivated a 15 man training staff from across the Army's combat field. Also responsible for the overarching safety of all personnel in a dynamic environment involving explosives, ammunition, aerial drones and armoured vehicles, in all weather conditions, by day and night. Delegated leadership of sub-organisation working as part of a larger operational Unit and independently when required.       Two year programme of study, placements and workplace-based learning for selected Lieutenant Colonels to gain business consultancy and change management skills. The programme aims to prepare the cohort for future command, leadership and management positions in higher headquarters. Key elements include an Executive MBA (Global) with Henley Business School; business consultancy skills training delivered by McKinsey & Co. Partners and regular top-up packages; ethical leadership workshops with the Forward Institute; and,further leadership training with the Windsor Leadership Trust. Once up-skilled, the cohort of Lieutenant Colonels work as change management consultants on the Army’s strategic/institutional challenges. Diagnosing issues, designing future-state solutions and working with senior leaders to implement change. Including the urgent resourcing of the Army’s structures to meet institutional-level priorities; annualised project work to ensure workforce inputs/outputs are balanced on a 10-year horizon.
