  The expert in energy management (EGE) is a modern and interdisciplinary professional figure that acts in the context of the new European energy market: he is called to interpret the changes that have affected the sector in the last decade, changing the balance of interests between consumers, energy suppliers, network operators and Energy Service Company.The EGE associates the technical skills of the solid foundations in environmental, economic-financial, business management and communication matters. It also naturally lends itself to the role of manager of the energy management system within the ISO 50001 standard.These are skills that can be developed through an adequate training course and, above all, through adequate experience in the field. The EGE was introduced by the UNI-CEI 11339 standard, dated December 2009, requires specific experience for certification that meets the technical standard UNI CEI 11339.On the legislative level, Legislative Decree 102/14 established (article 8) that the EGE are among the subjects entitled to conduct energy diagnoses in large companies and energy-intensive businesses; as of 19 July 2016, the EGEs that intend to conduct these diagnoses must be certified by a third party. The same Legislative Decree 102/14 provided (article 12) that the energy managers appointed by interested parties to request white certificates, starting from the same date, must be EGE certified by a third party in order to access the mechanism.With the Inter-Provincial Decree of 12 May 2015, the MiSE approved and published the certification and accreditation schemes for compliance with technical standards on ESCOs, energy management experts and Energy Management Systems, pursuant to the article 12, c.1 of Legislative Decree 102/14.
