      Student

Having studied this very unique undergraduate degree, throughout the three years I have learnt a range of things, from a general understanding in Geology to detailed understanding of hazard and vulnerability of hazards. Furthermore the third year of the degree has enabled me to network with people in the emergency planning sector and take a more practical look at the sector. Also, in my final year I took on the role of being the Treasurer for the Emergency Planning Society at Kingston University, as a society we organise informative talks from external speakers such as from Tearfund. I also fund any day trips that we as a society feel is beneficial to network with others and make contacts, for example this year we have attended the Emergency planning show in Birmingham and have also visited the Natural History Museum to observe their new earth science section. • Tesco Stores CR

      Oct 2012 - Feb 2014
      Customer Service Assistant

As a customer service assistant, I worked as part of a team to combine both customer service and problems that customers encountered, working to the best of my ability to correct the issues following the guidelines and policies set in place by Tesco as well as providing a pleasant shopping experience for any customers that I served. My roles included, the sale of cigarettes and lottery/scratch cards, returns and exchange of items, Tesco direct and clothing orders that were delivered to store. Furthermore due to the stresses of the retail industry and the lack of staff at my store, I took on extra responsibilities including collecting trolleys and baskets ensuring and sufficient quantity were available for customers, due to my work ethic and approachability I also covered my colleagues as checkout team leader when necessary. During seasonal periods I also took on more responsibility, for example around bonfire night I was assigned the role of the sale of fireworks, which were stored in a separate high security part of the store, this was a challenge alongside my other responsibilities but shows that I have a good work ethic and time management skills. My last responsibility was that I was able to open and close the store, ensuring that the till's had sufficient money to start the day and that the scratch cards and cigarettes were fully stocked. • Surrey Fire and Rescue Service

      Dec 2014 - Dec 2014
      Trainee

My course mates and I went on a day trip to Surrey Fire and Rescue Headquarters and training facility in Reigate. We went through a number of training drills where we were put into teams of either two or three and told to find our way through a pitch black room containing a series of tunnels and obstacles, using the right hand search technique, whereby you search a room with one colleague always in contact with the right hand wall both as a reference point and to be able to identify an exit route if a casualty is found. Secondly we did the same exercise in a smoke filled room. I feel that this training day was beneficial to myself as it shows that I work well as part of a team in stressful environments and have good, clear communication skills. Furthermore in the sector of emergency planning it can be said that a lot of people do not necessarily know the stress and pressure that the emergency services face, and this training day was a bit of an eye opener in that respect. Resilience Support Officer

The team that I work in is responsible for Emergency Planning, Business Continuity, Events within the Borough and CCTV. Since the start of the covid-19 pandemic we have also taken on the responsibility for providing PPE and Covid-19 Testing. I enjoy working in an ever changing and sometimes challenging environment which is certainly the case at Kingston. In response to the Covid pandemic we hired up to 75 agency staff which I have had the experience of managing for over a year now to run our asymptotic covid testing sites. I have also had the pleasure of working alongside colleagues within the Department of Health and Social care to identify suitable locations for covid-19 testing sites, managing the set up of these sites, ordering the required amounts of at-home lateral flow testing kits each week and responding to surge testing periods for variants of concern.I am part of the Resilience Rota at Kingston Council with two roles as a Local Authority Liaison Officer and Resilience Advisor which are both on call roles as well as being part of the Gold support group for when my chief executive is on duty as part of the London Local Authority Gold rota.I have completed training in Working in Safety Advisory Groups which was given by the Emergency Planning college and this has helped me greatly to manage the Events in the borough which involves reviewing event applications, requesting for suitable updates and working with Emergency services and council colleagues within the Safety Advisory Group to help event organisers to run safe and successful events.I am experienced in creating and updating emergency plans, business continuity plans, risk assessments and business impact assessments. The other part of my role is the administrator for the Borough Resilience Forum and River Safety Forum which allows me the privilege of working alongside colleagues from the Emergency Services, voluntary organisations and other council colleagues.
