Oct 1987 - Oct 1993Graphic DesignerI worked as a temp administrative/desktop publisher/designer at various companies in the Bay Area, via personal contacts, MacTemps and Kelly Temporary Staffing. These companies included copy centers (Zebra Copy, Copymat, and Kinkos), Apple Computers, Hitachi, AMD, and Hewlett Packard. I also worked for smaller privately held companies consisting of lawyers, business staff, and medical staff creating slides, presentations, collateral pieces, drawings, publications, etc. Additionally, I had the opportunity to work with solopreneurs generating branding, labels, collateral pieces, and marketing pieces such as a winery, jewelry maker, small cafés and restaurants. I have worked with large companies and small ones, generating design and marketing materials, as well as performing customer service, answering the phones, generating & assembling materials to help businesses communicate and make money. I worked primarily onsite directly with management/owners. Show less

Oct 1993 - Mar 1997Marketing/EducationWorked initially in the Oracle Education dept generating educational materials for onsite Oracle training for it's customers. Initially started working with Adobe PageMaker for print materials and PowerPoint slideshow on PC's for in-class presentations, and then moved into Adobe FrameMaker on Sun Sparc stations for print materials and PowerPoint slideshow on PC's for in-class presentations.Branched out to Oracle University work which allowed me to expand my knowledge and capabilities into Interactive Distance Learning working with satellite TV generating television graphics. Also worked with Educational Marketing Team to develop the educational courseware catalog every 6 months. New skills included working with writing teams, photographers, and interactive distance learning instructors. Hypercard, QuarkXPress and Photoshop were additional software packages used in these projects.Moved into Vertical Markets Marketing dept developing support materials, tradeshow materials, and Powerpoint presentations for supporting the sales force and upper management in each vertical market. Developed the first interactive CD with an outside vendor to interact with Oracle database in a laptop while offsite for the Oil & Gas vertical. Colleen's task was to bring in marketing/design experts to interview and then turn around and market to the appropriate businesses who needed creative overflow or temporary help onsite.Colleen worked with internal sales people to train on the general creative industry, what companies existed in the Bay Area that required the talent Artisan represented, and how and who to market to. Working closely with the sales team after training, Colleen helped select specific candidates for jobs with 99% successful placements, including full-time hires. Artisan clientele encompassed working with corporate businesses (Oracle, Cisco, Galoob Toys, etc.) to advertising agencies (Landor Associates, McCann Erickson, etc.) to small businesses such as local law and doctors offices.Colleen's role was working directly with clients, artists, Artisan sales staff and Artisan business owners to build business in San Francisco and foster the overall growth of the company while representing artists and providing them with assignments or placements thru/out the Bay Area.Colleen worked with owners to build additional new branch offices in San Diego and Orange County and was a part of the overall company management staff to help shape the direction of the company.
