      Energy manager

Conceived, analyzed, secured funding for, and implemented energy conservation programs and cost-effective energy efficiency projects on three college campuses: Amherst, Mount Holyoke, and Smith. Secured rebates and incentives from utilities, state, and grid operator. Worked directly with various campus constituencies interested in sustainability and energy issues. Estimated energy savings, developed and maintained database to track projects, and tracked utility bills and overall energy use. Assisted in inventory of greenhouse gas emissions. Portfolio of projects generated savings in excess of capital cost after five years, reduced energy use of campuses 12% and greenhouse gas emissions 27%. Show less

    • Williams college

      Feb 2011 - Feb 2015
      Energy efficiency project engineer

Indentified, analyzed, and implemented projects to reduce energy use and greenhouse gas emissions. Projects included energy-efficient lighting (interior and exterior), weatherization/insulation/air sealing of campus buildings, controls, fuel conversion, and retro-commissioning. Introduced concepts such as infrared thermography, air tightness testing and standards, and energy use targets for renovations and new buildings. Managed more than 25 projects, with budgets totaling $3.6 million. Largest of these was a comprehensive renovation of the hockey rink, which updated the locker rooms and support offices along with measures that cut the energy use in half. Campus energy use reduced 3% per year, despite new buildings that were projected to add 6% to the energy use. Energy savings are on track for a six-year payback. Show less

    • Hampshire college

      Feb 2015 - Jun 2018
      Projects and operations manager

Responsible for projects and facilities operations that improve energy efficiency and sustainability, reduce campus greenhouse gas emissions, and implement the climate action plan. Purchased energy commodities; electricity and natural gas. Supervised the specification, installation, and operation of two on-site solar arrays with enough capacity to generate 100% of the College’s annual electricity load, a first for a residential college. Oversaw punch list, commissioning, and operation of the RW Kern Center which has been certified as a Living Building by the ILFI, the 17th building in the world and the largest in higher education. It achieved net-zero energy operation for the first 22 months. The rainwater harvest system required working closely with Mass DEP for operation, testing, and re-licensing the system as a public water supply. Show less
