      Doctoral Study - no degree Computer Science - Artificial Intelligence

      I began my doctoral work in computer science under a full fellowship for the year, Due to financial reasons, ended up switching to the University of Illinois at Chicago.

      I received a Bachelor's of Science degree in physics in 1980 and a Master's degree in Applied Mathematics in 1982.

      I was in the doctoral program in computer science. Passed all exams and completed a thesis but had to abandon the peer review due to discovering someone else had published the same research topic. Too late to change at the point.

      This company was a small defense contractor that developed analysis support tools for the US Navy and Strategic Air Command (SAC) among others. I initially started part-time while I was doing my doctoral work and moved to full-time once I started my thesis. I worked developing and testing new features for these tools (written in Fortran and eventually migrated to C). I was also the CEO for a brief two-year period near the end of my stint at this company.

      Senior Programmer

      At platinum technologies (sic), I worked on developing tools to upgrade production-level databases such as Sybase and Oracle; these tools used a user-interface to describe the changes to database schemas and data, which at the time was done solely through SQL. Also took over maintenance of a software tool that migrates database changes from a bank's headquarters across multiple bank branches in the Netherlands.

      I started my career at Here (previously NavTech) as a lead engineer for the user interface of an in-car navigation system developed for Panasonic. From there I worked in the applied research department focusing on ADAS (Advanced Driver Assisted Systems) projects. After that, I became a lead architect developing new features for the company's core electronic maps. Became a test automation engineer for awhile developing and promoting automated testing tools. Finished as a principal DevOps engineer in Engineering Productivity department where I maintained a Jenkins as a Service fleet of servers across all project teams; also lead the creation of a production-level GitLab service in AWS for the company, Show less
