Learning Frameworks: Student SuccessCourse Description: This interdisciplinary course addresses (1) research and theory in learning, cognition, and motivation; (2) factors that impact learning; and (3) application of learning strategies. Theoretical models of strategic learning, cognition, and motivation serve as the conceptual basis for the introduction of college-level student academic strategies. Students use assessment instruments (e.g., learning inventories) to help them identify their own strengths and weaknesses as strategic learners. Students are ultimately expected to integrate and apply learning skills discussed in the course. Students developing these skills should be able to continually draw from the theoretical models. Critical thinking serves as the foundation for different thematic approaches using a variety of academic disciplines. This course is cross-listed as PSYC 1300. The student may register for either EDUC 1300 or PSYC 1300 but may receive credit for only one of the two. (3 Lec.) I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Texas with over 5 years of combined experience in the counseling field and 8 years in career planning and coaching. I have worked with individuals dealing with a wide range of concerns including anxiety and depression, due to various life changes and during transition periods across their lifespan. Working in a community college setting has allowed me to work with a range of clients that are beginning their goals, changing their goals, or reaffirming and enhancing their goals at varying ages and phases of life. I love seeing my clients through the process based on their current needs and future aspirations.I believe you are the expert on your life and that we can discover the tools and techniques, that you need for success, together. I have a very solution focused approach that has been helpful in moving clients beyond the feeling of "stuck". I am known for having a "Rogerian style" as I empower and motivate my clients through the process. It takes boldness to take this step towards receiving the help you need, and I commend you for this first step, of many, towards your life and career success. Show less
