  Previous studies have used autoregressive integrated moving average (ARIMA) models to study traffic flow forecasting in the Chicago metropolitan area. ARIMA is a time series modeling technique that uses historical data to make future predictions. However, in real highway networks other factors may influence the traffic flow beyond time. Incorporating this additional information may allow for a more accurate predictive model, and may also provide insight into the relationship between these various factors. A new technique called Kernel ARIMA (KARIMA) is developed in this project with the goal of improving Chicago traffic flow predictions using geographic and demographic data. Show less
