      2014 - 2017
Master of Science - MS Fish and Wildlife Conservation

      • Developed and completed a project on the population dynamics and demographics of Muskellunge in the New River, Virginia, and their potential predatory impact on Smallmouth Bass. • Developed regulatory recommendations that would allow the Muskellunge fishery to grow while reducing the impact of that fishery on Smallmouth Bass. These recommendations were presented to the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fish and were adopted in 2017.

      • Tracked migration patterns of Smallmouth Bass between the James River and its tributaries using otolith microstructures and isotopic signatures; continued research for honors thesis in environmental studies.

    • Duke University

      Jun 2012 - Aug 2012
      REU Student

      • Analyzed liver protein composition of estuarine fish species to determine degree of pollution in five local creeks; showed discrepancies in federal and scientific pollution designations• Presented results to Center of Marine Science & Technology and Duke Marine Lab Faculty

    • Environmental Defense Fund

      Aug 2013 - Dec 2013
      Oceans Intern

      • Developed a coral reef ecosystem simulation model for testing the impacts of different policy scenarios on outcomes such as fishery yield and ecosystem service production; created for use on data-poor coral reef ecosystems.• Evaluated best available science to assess various environmental impacts on living marine resources, particularly marine resources related to or interacting with coral reef ecosystems.

John A. Knauss Marine Policy Fellow | Endangered Species Program Specialist

      • Based on NOAA Fisheries' and the US Fish and Wildlife Service's policies and guidance on the Endangered Species Act (ESA) and the Marine Mammal Protection Act (MMPA), I implemented Section 4 of the ESA, including conducting species status reviews in response to petitions and conducting 5-year reviews for listed species.• Attended formal trainings, various professional meetings, and other fora on the ESA, MMPA, NEPA, MBTA, CITES, and related environmental federal and state laws, executive orders, regulations, and international treaties and agreements. • Assist with NOAA's responsibilities related to the Working Group on Marine Geospatial Information (WG-MGI). This Working Group was created by and falls under the purview of the United Nations - Global Geospatial Information Management Committee of Experts (UN-GGIM). • Coordinate with the Working Group to highlight and provide guides and standards to increase significantly the availability of high-quality, timely and reliable geospatial information (e.g., a paper on the benefits and challenges associated with open, readily accessible marine geospatial information).
