    • Jacksonville 4th Judicial Circuit Teen Court

      Mar 2018 - Aug 2019
      Prosecutor

•As a member of the Teen Court program, I serve as a defense attorney or prosecutor hearing teenage cases and arguing them in front of Duval County Judges. The cases and the rulings made by the Judge are real and the teenagers must report to Teen Court managers to ensure they're completing their duties levied in the ruling. •Being a Teen Court attorney has exposed me to the realities of the crime of Jacksonville, not the distorted images seen on the news or the widespread stereotypes. I would represent a variety of students in the Duval County juvenile system, from both middle and high school. I would meet the parents of the students to discuss their interpretation of the events being argued and their preferred sentence. •The organization of the trial would be opening statements, defendant statements, questioning from the jury, closing statements, deliberation, and finally the handing down from the jury, much like an actual court proceeding. • Communities In Schools of Jacksonville

      Jun 2018 - Aug 2018
      Summer Intern

•Through my internship with Communities in Schools of Jacksonville, I serve as a mentor and role model to approximately 40 children at an underfunded and disadvantaged middle-school, one that I attended. This invaluable experience has allowed me to show these stereotyped children their true potential, the potential I personally know can be disbursed with self-confidence and hard work. •Foremost, I've learned how to teach others and communicate my struggles in order to lead them down a path similar to my own. My own experiences within the school system and the ones of the children I worked with molded my aspiration to one day be an educator as serving those students made everyday worth it. Show less

    • Bank of America

      Jun 2018 - Aug 2018
      Student Leader

•Selected as one of 236 students nationally to serve and represent my community, demonstrating my abilities as a leader. I served throughout the summer as an Intern to Community in Schools of Jacksonville through my being a student leader. Through this internship, I was exposed to the interworking of an organization that I’d actually unknowingly participated in middle school.•In July, all of the student leaders converged upon D.C. for the week-long summit. There, the student leaders were presented with speakers ranging from CEOs of non-profits, executives within the Bank of America Charitable Foundation, and civil rights leaders. Then, we ventured off to meet our representatives on Capitol Hill. I had an amazing time as I met Rep. Ted Yoho, Senator Marco Rubio, Rep. Mia Love, Senator Ben Sasse, Senator Tom Carper, and Rep. Elizabeth Esty. •This opportunity fundamentally changed my life, showing me that education was my life’s purpose and that Capitol Hill is a place that foments a feeling of happiness in my heart. We also were tasked with the end-of-the-year summary of the events of our Council.•Presented with a variety of speakers ranging from authors to CEOs of non-profit organizations that advanced my knowledge of my community and furthered my knowledge of local governments, truly spelling out what effective political participation was. To gain from these speakers and my peers, the fellow representatives, different viewpoints tremendously added to my growth and prepared me for life beyond high school.•Contributed to the two conferences held by MYLAC: the Mind over Matter Conference that helps bring awareness to mental health issues within our community and also a conference on gun and gang violence within the community. Nov 2018 - Jun 2020
      Poll Worker

•Assist voters when they arrive to my precinct, ensuring their process of using their constitutionally guaranteed right is as easy as possible, by checking them in via obtaining their identification and handing them a card that enables their retrieving their ballot.•At another station within the precinct, I would retrieve the voter card and, based on the code on the card, give them their own ballot style so that they could vote, making sure the ballots are distributed within a sleeve that maintains anonymity for the voters.•At the final station where I worked, I would feed each individual ballot into the ballot checking machine that ensures the ballot was completed correctly. If the ballot was not done properly, I would obtain it from the machine, insert it back into its sleeve and return it to the voter. Show less

This research position was garnered through Wellesley College's "Sophomore Early Research Program." This opportunity allows me to research the intersection of math & politics under two professors in the Math department, with my work being an extension of their initiative called the Institution for Mathematics and Democracy.- Specifically, the question I am seeking to answer through my research is what is the difference in accuracy and/or error in election polling relative to results in different voting systems i.e. plurality vs. ranked-choice voting etc. This research is quite literally what I would like to be my life's work as I want to go into election and public opinion polling that allows progressive candidates to most effectively, through predictions from polling data, distribute their campaign resources.
