      A key member of the country management team and provided leadership in the areas of project and fiscal management and operations for the Malawi office. This position was responsible for identifying project management gaps, resolving challenges, partnership management, local and regional fundraising, recruiting, and day-to-day operations, procurement, grants management, financial monitoring, donor reporting, personnel management, and provision of strategic support to the Malawi Office. I worked closely with the technical and operations staff in Malawi, as well as the North Crolina based Regional Support Team. My work as National and Operations Manager was about growth, Scale and transformation; growing the programme funding portfolio. I had to lead the process of setting up the program structure, policy and systems for the programme and reposition the organization as a key player in Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) through international and national networking and collaboration. My national and international level networking with government, donor community, other international and Local NGO allowed Ipas to effectively engage in policy formulation and influencing. This is the time I had to lead the team in ensuring program coherence and quality by implementing a well articulated program evaluation plan, adhering to quality assurance measures, processes and procedures and ensuring that staff are well trained, supported, encouraged and motivated to deliver on their key performance indicators (KPIs) as well program KPIs. Show less As the Interim, Head of Business Development, Communications and Campaigns I was a member of the Country Leadership Team and managed the Business Development Unit (BDU) and Communications and Campaigns Units (CCU). The BDU is responsible for leading all of Plan International Malawi’s Programme development mandate as per the approved country strategy. The role among other critical roles was entrusted with the mandate of building strong donor relationships in country, fostering strategic relationships among development partners, the Private Sector, INGOs and local NGOs to ensure Plan is a go to partner in Malawi. The role was further vested with the responsibility to provide strategic leadership of live bids including actual write up of less technical proposals while working with the Programme team to design all new projects as well as ensure high quality proposals are delivered by the CO with the right quality and in a timely manner. Important for the role was the ability to have a balanced understanding of both programme development, start up and programme delivery so as to provide strategic support to donor compliance management such as donor reporting among other areas. The position involved a high degree of complexity in resolving a wide range of challenges which typically occur in strategic programme development, acquisition, managing a diversified grants portfolio and managing the communications and campaigns function of a high-profile organization. This also encompassed strengthening accountability, planning, management and adherence to policies and procedures, and promoting a culture of delivery of results, both short and long term. I was also responsible for building and maintaining a strong brand image and for managing crisis communications in situations where there is a risk of reputation damage to the organization.
