➣ My multiple certificates were utilized during my first year at Northern: I taught Art 1 and French 1 in the high school, as well as French in the 7th and 8th grades. The amount of students choosing to continue studying French increased, giving me a full-time schedule of French classes every year thereafter.➣ Incorporating technology and cross-curricular content comes naturally: my students have made comic strips, illustrated books, posted puppet shows to YouTube, and created kid-safe blogs. I shared new ways to engage students with 21st Century Skills with new and veteran members of my department, and was a part of the iPad Pilot Program- the goal of which is to discover and share how to implement this device in the educational setting.➣ As a tenured faculty member, I served as a mentor to a first year teacher. I engaged in informal observations and discussions that evaluate current teacher practices of others and myself. In addition, I began the Faculty Lending Library at Northern.➣ I kept parents informed of classroom news and resources for their students via email and through several technological means, including the district website, Edmodo, PowerSchool, Google Calendar, Quizlet, Twitter, and my own custom YouTube channel.➣ I encouraged student participation through positive reinforcement and incentives, and ran an effective, orderly classroom using procedures and clear expectations. Northern did not use a French textbook; therefore, I employed my creativity and expertise to design each daily lesson plan with a student-oriented target, benchmarks, PowerPoints, worksheets, and formative and summative assessments. Teacher of Art

➣Self-motivation and an enthusiastic pursuit of growth and excellence are the catalysts for creative projects that I've led with students and worked on together with other teachers. ➣Cooperation is key: throughout the year I have worked with various teachers to complete a wide range of projects, for both inside and outside of the art classroom. This includes creating props, costumes, and backgrounds for concerts in cooperation with the music teacher, making posters and decorations for the yearly school character theme at the request of the school guidance counselor, and taking the initiative to contact classroom teachers in order to design lessons that reinforce learning goals of other disciplines.➣Engaging parents and students in a culture supportive of art is an ongoing goal for which I have reached several clear and effective objectives. These include monthly to weekly updates about the art classroom via my blog at eldridgeparkart.blogspot.com, and the creation of Artsonia accounts for each student. In addition, over half of all students at Eldridge Park have had a parent or guardian create an Artsonia parent account, with which they can write and approve comments on their students' work and receive updates when new work has been created.➣I wrote and was awarded a grant during my first year at Eldridge Park from the Lawrence Township Education Foundation. The grant proposal, titled "Falcon Frieze," contributes to the school and district's culture, which is rooted in the pillars of character, combining art and character education. ➣During my first year I hosted two artist visits, working with them to guide third grade students in character education and cultural awareness.
