      Worked at SIU on white-tailed deer and predator study in Southern and Central Illinois. Examined deer and predator relations and their correlation to individuals movement within study area. In late May, began survival study examining instances of mortality in neonate white-tail fawns. Planned and implemented feeding trials on juvenile shovelnose sturgeon. Husbandry of adult shovelnose and pallid sturgeon. Used GoPro camera traps to observe different feeding behaviors exhibited when feeding on fish larvae versus crustaceans. DNA extraction and PCR amplification of white-tailed deer samples in southern Illinois. Genemapper software was used to identify common allele frequencies. Weekly field surveys using radiotelemetry from vehicles. Collar frequencies were checked and monitored for mortality signals.

      Surveyed and mapped invasive plant species in Crab Orchard National Wildlife Refuge. Conducted bat surveys at the refuge using ANABat equipment. General knowledge of botanical species of southern Illinois, invasive plant removal methods, First Aid certification, pesticide applicator licensing, and willdife identification.

      Surveyed and maintained records for state and federally-listed Species of Conservation Concern (SOCCs) throughout sixteen counties in southeast Missouri. Federal species included Mead's milkweed (Asclepias meadii) and Hine's Emerald Dragonfly (Somatochlora hineana). Worked alongside other management divisions (wildlife, fisheries, forestry, private lands, etc) to determine best management practices for SOCCs within their geographies.       Ecologist/Community Health Index Coordinator

      Position in partnership with Forest Service - Region 9 and Missouri Department of Conservation. Oversees use of Community Health Index (CHI) assessments across a vareity of landscapes and partnerships, including federal, state, local, private landowners, and non-governmental organizations. In 2022, coordinated partnership with Forest Service Region 9, providing their primary monitoring method for the Southern Tier Oak Restoration Initiative (STORI). This collaboration spans the majority of Missouri, southern Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, and into West Virginia and Pennsylvania and aims to provide assessments tools for effective oak ecosystem restoration. Through a variety of platforms (in-person, virtual, and audio), communicated about CHI and how it can be utilized to provide ground-level information, allowing for pre-and-post management assessments, and monitoring trends of ecological health.
