    • Princess Cruises

      Sept 2011 - Jun 2018

Employed as a 2nd Engineer Senior Watchkeeper onboard the largest class of vessel within the Princess Fleet. My main responsibilities as senior engineering watchkeeper was to monitor the automation and ensure all the machinery ran correctly and was sufficient to meet the demand of the vessel, such as power generation and distribution, fuel management, water consumption and production to name a few.I would supervise and directly guide the junior engineer and motormen to ensure alarms and abnormal parameters were swiftly remedied in order to prevent shutdowns and possible equipment failures. It was my duty to organise and supervise maintenance on systems requiring attention. As part of these maintenance duties, my role was to plan and undertake any maintenance, whether planned or breakdown, ensuring we had the necessary spares, manpower and sufficient time to complete the job. This involved becoming competent in using the AMOS system for planned maintenance and spare parts stock and ordering. As part of machinery isolations, I have become familiar with lock out, tag out procedures and permits to work. As 2nd Engineer, I have gained valuable experience of man-management and communications between the engine and bridge watchkeeping teams and also the senior officers onboard the vessels. I am competent in using machinery automation systems, such as Siemens and Valmarine.I have worked and performed overhauls on a variety of medium-speed, 4-stroke engines both common rail and conventional injection and have experience with Gas turbines. I am competent with both horizontal and vertical fired boilers and associated steam systems.I have completed Dry-Docks and have been involved in Port/Flag state inspections and PSSC audits.I have broad knowledge with machinery space firefighting and associated systems. As part of the engine fire team, I have taken part and coordinated many fire drills and I am familiar with donning and using Breathing Apparatus. Show less As 3rd Engineer Officer, I was the junior watch keeper which involved very regular machinery checks of the whole engine room, investigating and problem solving alarms and faulty equipment under advisement from the 2nd Engineer Officer.Conducting thorough single handed watches and handovers.Condition Monitoring of all major and auxiliary components.Using all senses to verify correct running of all machinery, reporting and correcting defects as necessary.Constant monitoring of all electrical motors within the engine space taking regular condition monitoring and recording all data.Checking, testing and maintaining automatic controls and alarm systems.System analysis and evaluation.Knowledge of all systems in the machinery space, including the locations of all valves and machinery to enable quick and safe isolations of failing equipment.Sailing upon vessels with diesel electric propulsion with up to 42 MW propulsion power and 67.2 MW electrical generating power, predominantly working with Wartsila engines including the in line 9, V12, V16 models. Both common rail and conventional injection. Extensive knowledge with auxiliary steam boilers producing up to 30,000 kg/h and associated monitoring and safety systems.I have extensive knowledge of centrifugal purifiers, air compressors, oily water seperators, Exhaust Gas Cleaning Systems, evaporators and Reverse Osmosis systems and Hamworthy Membrane Bio Reactor sewage system. I have gained a lot of knowledge from the various roles I have performed on board, this includes but is not limited to, exposure to refrigeration systems, hydraulic systems, electrical systems/motors and boiler/steam systems. As well as Main Engine overhauls and overhauls of auxiliary machinery such as pumps, compressors and purifiers. This includes all condition monitoring of engines, purifiers, pumps, compressors etc taking regular vibration monitoring checks, oil analysis, and also thermographic tests. Show less

      2nd Engineer - Private Yacht

Working in a department of 3 engineers, I was in charge of carrying out engine room maintenance both planned and unplanned. Working in the machinery space a private super yacht requires the highest level of housekeeping and cleanliness. I would meticulously plan jobs so they wouldn’t coincide with other vessel operations and would be completed in the most appropriate timeframe.I controlled the engine room spares inventory and fuel and oil stocks. Working with the Chief engineer, I planned multiple yard periods and class/flag inspections and lead teams of external contractors ensuring they worked safely and correctly whilst onboard. Show less
