Mentor of the YEAR for FJUHSD

I would have weekly meetings with freshman about their experience in High School to date. For some, "mentoring" was a necessity, meaning, aiding the student with homework or aiding them with communicating to a teacher about a problem they are having in class. I became Mentor of the Year for FJUHSD 2007 because one freshman in particular I mentored, did a complete 180 from the beginning to the end of the year. My freshman went from known "drug-using, dealing, and sexually aware and active person" with a 1.23 GPA to respectable young lady. She spoke up to the proper personnel with my guidance and ended up moving out and away from her surroundings to better aid her not just in school but in life! She finished her freshman year with a 3.67 GPA! I still have the letter from this student which my teacher confiscated from me and read, which is ironically the reason why I won the award. It is a Full page Thank You Note, showing just how much off a POSITIVE IMPACT was made and how she will never steer away from this path. Show less
