These included taking orders and delivering the orders, making the drinks, helping with kitchen duties, such as making salads and baking, and cleaning the rooms for the bed and breakfast. Again, the staff here work as a strong team which i enjoyed being a part of.

  During my time at The Red Lion Hotel, I had many responsibilities. These included managing the bar and restaurant when my manager was not present, opening and closing the hotel on weekdays and nights, taking bookings both over the phone and by email for the hotel. The staff at The Red Lion Hotel, Wirksworth, are a very close knit team which I thoroughly enjoyed being a part of.

  My role at Sainsburys allowed me to gain a lot of knowledge about the customer service sector. During my short period of time here, I was asked to become Supervisor, which entailed much more responsibility. Although I turned this promotion down due to leaving to return to my studies, I was glad that I had such a good opportunity during only 4 months work.

  Contracts Officer - Finance and ICT Division (Placement Year)

  The Placement Year undertaken at DCC lead to me gaining invaluable experience of the working world. The job role for the year was 'Contracts Officer' and I was placed within the ICT Section, meaning I independently managed over 70 ICT Contracts. During this role, I was able to improve my communication skills as it involved contacting several different suppliers, attending meetings with internal stakeholders and having day to day communications within my team. My independence has also improved due to the amount of responsibility I had within the council, also leading to the growth of other non-technical skills such as organisation and time-keeping. A lot of technical skills were also developed during my time with DCC, mainly from working within the ICT division. Show less
