  I performed a method validation on carbohydratedeficienttransferrin (CDT%) assay. A marker which is elevated in alcoholics. It has a half life of 2 weeks and therefore it is a great marker to check if alcoholics in therapy are still users or not. First it was accepted to be a new assay in the lab, but later on it cost more then in brought in because of a lack of patients or samples.

  In this internship I started to develop a bio-activity assay to determine innate immune activity after Myocardial Infarction (MI). Microvesicles excreted after MI are responsible for the innate immune response in the infarct area. The test this, THP-1 cells were stimulated/inhibited with the microvesicles obtained from pig blood which underwent MI. Using flowcytometry, the THP-1 cells were screened for several markers which indicate activation/inhibition. The visualize activation/inhibition after the MI blood was drawn at several timepoints during and after MI. Show less
