      Activities and Societies: Member of the Kutlwanong alumni (UCT) and Golden Key society. Graduated with a BSc honours in Geology with First Class. Received a class medal for the Honours course. The modules completed are geophysics, isotope geochemistry, igneous petrology, geotechtonics, geodata, mantle petrology, analytical geochemistry and economic geology. In addition, I did a thesis project on "The Geochemistry of the Tankwa Karoo Breccia Pipes". The project was also passed with a distinction.

      My job is mainly focused on drilling and sample logging. Since I am in a training and development programme, I also get exposed to other fields in the Mine Development department like surveying, mine planning and production geology.

      I work with a resource development team. The primary duties of the team is to update the resource and reserve of all the Rio Tinto Iron, Titanium and Zirconium(RTIT) operations and acquire new Iron, Titanium and Zirconium projects.

      I work primarily in innovations and flowsheet development. I work with various projects in multiple countries including Canada, South Africa and Mozambique. My duties include:- Testing new equipment to improve currently existing mineral processing flowsheets for projects and mining operations.- Plan and facilitate testwork in order to develop process flowsheets for new projects.- Supporting small-scale plant commissioning.- Assisting in the tendering process for plant maintenance.- Participating in the recruitment of plant personnel.One of the central duties of my role is contributing towards the shift to environmentally friendly mining and processing operations. I am currently part of the facilitators for Rio Tinto's Low Impact mining challenge which is hosted on the HeroX platform. In this challenge we work with innovators to develop solutions that minimize environmental footprint and reduce water utilised by our mining operations. Show less
