This role is to provide support to our tenants who are suffering financial hardship identified by either the income manager or housing manager. We are also identifying clients who are going to be affected by the Welfare form changes, either by under occupancy , benefit cap , and preparing for the Universal Credit . We work closely with the local Benefit departments to resolve issues and this has proved very successful and reduced the escalation of our rent arrears increasing overall. Now having completed the first year, the role has embraced the new Welfare reform changes. We have developed a process to prioritise the vulnerable and most at risk, at the same time ensuring there is good communication with the Income Management Team. This has safeguarded tenancies, but has also prevented arrears levels rising. Overall, I have been able to guide clients through the new changes in their benefits and work towards getting stability in their financial income.2014My role has really progressed , in that we are now sustaining tenants in their homes as opposed to eviction . Referals are made at an earlier stage, this earlier intervention has meant we have been able to achieve more, and also less repeat referrals to the same families. I have some strong contacts with local councils and other agencies, this has resulted in some amazing joined up working, fantastic results achieved in downsizing and putting the tenants in a sustainable situation.Fast forward to 2018 ...... I'm still here and love my work more than ever. The goals have changed particularly with all changes to benefits, Universal Credit is rolling out (with a few teething problems) but again we are seeing less and less familiar faces. A lot of my cases are from the start of a tenancy ensuring that the tenant is aware of what needs to be set up to maintain their home. If circumstances change they know that we are there to support.
