I lead and conduct my own independent research project on what kind of policies to implement in relation to the training of physicians to improve citizens’ living standards. I accomplish so by researching the disparities and inequalities within the societies of South Africa and Nigeria as it relates to healthcare. From there, I get to figure out the best way to address these disparities and inequalities through policy-making designed to equip physicians with the necessary support they need from the government to combat these challenges. After conducting my research, I reach out to different community settings to present my work and findings through workshops and symposiums I organize. This will get to encourage people to develop a greater competence of the impact that disparities within healthcare services have on communities. Show less As a University Honors Ambassador, I am responsible for representing University Honors both on and off campus. I get to hold office hours on a weekly basis to provide students with one-on-one mentoring regardless of Honors status. Besides holding office hours, I am responsible for planning and coordinating community building events throughout the year to members of the Honors community and to the larger UCR community. I am also responsible for personally hosting and organizing “Real Talk” discussions on relevant issues that students get to face on campus. Finally, I get to assist in planning and coordinating all major events and activities that are sponsored by University Honors such as the Alumni Mixer, Faculty Mixer, University Honors Cording Ceremony among other events. I also get to listen to their concerns and have them elevated to campus leadership and the Senate to have them addressed. In meetings, I get to advocate for which issues is student input necessary in order to provide as much insight as possible on changes that need to be made. Show less
