  In my 11 years of employment at The Sun, I wrote about almost every topic at one time or another. I spent the most time covering immigration, using my Spanish skills to report on issues that had been largely ignored in the local press. I also wrote about crime, education, local government, the environment, water and numerous other topics.

  Communications Director

  I worked in the San Bernardino district office for Congressman Joe Baca. I was the Congressman's local point person for communications and media relations. I handled press inquiries, and wrote news releases, speeches and talking points for the Congressman in collaboration with the communications director in Washington D.C. I was also a field representative and attended events on the Congressman's behalf. That part of my job consisted of speaking publicly in front of local officials to give updates about federal issues that affected them. I also was in charge of transportation and water issues for the district office.   I was a freelancer for The Press-Enterprise from May 2013 until February 2015, when I was promoted to a full-time staff writer. My beat was K-12 education and community colleges, although I covered many other topics including breaking news, environment, local government and immigration.

  I managed one of the most successful Mexican restaurants in the Inland Empire. As a full-time supervisor, I was responsible for ensuring that guests enjoyed a superior dining experience every time they visited. I was in charge of a 30-member staff, most of whom were predominately Spanish speaking. I can speak, read, write and understand Spanish.
