    • The University of Edinburgh

      Aug 2013 - Sept 2013
      Research Placement

Following completion of my second year of undergraduate chemistry, I undertook a voluntary summer placement in Dr Michael Shaver's laboratory. My project involved screening novel vanadium catalyst for Controlled Radical Polymerisation (CRP) and magnesium based catalyst for Ring Opening Polymerisation (ROP).

      Jul 2014 - Aug 2014
      Research Placement

I was awarded the Barnson Bequest Vacation Scholarship which allowed me to complete an 8 week research project under the supervision of Dr Neil Robertson. The work was to synthesise and characterise lanthanide doped nanoparticles of NaGdF4 for use as luminescent solar concentrators for silicon solar cells. The research furthered my interest in photochemistry and allowed me to gain invaluable experience in a variety of experimental techniques.

    • EPFL (École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne)

      Jul 2015 - Aug 2015
      Research Placement

I worked in the Molecular Engineering of Optoelectronic Nanoparticles Lab at EPFL under the supervision of Prof. Kevin Sivula. My project involved modifying different deposition techniques of CuFeO2 on FTO for use as p-type photocathodes in tandem cells for solar water splitting.
