  Collating meteorological and climatological requirements for land based users within the Ministry of Defence, including but not limited to the British Army. Skilled Operational Weather Forecaster supporting Military Rotary Operations across the UK and abroad. Skillied Operational Forecaster responsibile for providing weather information for initial fixed wing pilot trainees. Provide on site weather information services for UK assets overseas in the Mediterranean. This included route training exercises and support to search and rescue operations in Cyprus during volatile seasonal weather. 6 months classroom based study in the Met Office colleague, learning the theory of weather forecasting including maths, physics, dynamics, model characteristics, large scale meteorological concepts and small scale local processes. Also included in this time was a week’s defence conversion course, and completing part 1 of the Aeronautical Meteorological Observing (AMO) qualification. Exams were passed in order to progress to the on the job learning second part of the qualification.

  Leading a team onsite of 4 meteorologists at RIAT; 8 days of delivering onsite weather services to allow safe operations. Delivering TAFs, METARs and weather briefings to the flying crews. Engaging with the Flying Display Director and Air Traffic to ensure displays operate safely within weather limits. Also contributing to the safety of the public in weather events. This year, warm temperatures on the exposed airfield allowed us to engage early with the onsite Media team to get communications out to the public through their social media to come prepared with suncream, hats and water bottles - something that they had not been aware of before we made the call to them. There is no doubt that this will have limited the number of heat related illnesses over the weekend. Show less
