I studied 'Zen' on my Masters at Bath Spa, creating 'free' Textile designs whilst meditating, from the sounds in my studio, my bossy wren and maaing sheep! Driving to Falmouth University College on the A.30, (where I completed 2 yrs of my M.A.), I became fascinated with the geometry of the backs of road tankers and 'The Journey'. Following tankers through cities, and into service stations to get those special shots bemused many drivers and was such fun. I enjoy creating beautiful sophisticated silk designs from something as industrial as a sewage tanker. I recently showed these designs in a solo exhibition at The Devon Guild of Craftsmen. New work available to galleries. Show less

      -
Master of Arts - MA Apparel and Textiles M.A.

Activities and Societies: I love being creative, experimental, be it abstract art, bright colour. I love 'the 'Zen' of art, i.e. creating imagery in meditation. On my M.A. I was fascinated by the backs of road tankers talking to many friendly tanker drivers. To me they linked with with the roundness and spirituality of the sun., of Oriental Art of my designs being seen in different scenarios i.e. fashion, prints, accessories.

      2007 - 2009
1st year of Masters Degree. Falmouth University College 2 years Master of Arts Degree. Textile Design Master of Arts

My year at Bath Spa University was special. I worked really hard to develop my 'Zen' spontaneous work and created a range of ties, stoles and art pieces. A considerable amount of the work created at Bath was pivotal to my development. I loved the draping workshops. On the last day of the year, I was involved in a traumatic multi accident involving 6 cars on the M.5. near Burnham on Sea. I then changed to Falmouth University College.

    • David Evans, Silk Block Printers, Crayford, Kent.

      Jun 1984 - Sept 1984
      Student Intern

I worked with David Evans, Crayford, Kent for a Summer as a Student Intern before my B.A. working in different departments including the Design Studio, Screen Printing etc. It was the end of commercial block printing there with only 4 block printers left. I cried buckets, leaving on the same day as the many who were made redundant on the final day of block printing. Later, I wrote my B.A. thesis on my stay which I am hoping to turn into a book.

Textile Designer and Printer of Quality Silks

Whether it be screen printing, free print creation, drawing, photography or digital printing, I love to use the best quality silks in my beautiful studio in Devon, often using 'free screens' to create art forms and designs. I love colour, experimenting with effects created by using dye pastes not normally compatible and 'Zen' free printing from sound in meditation. It was an amazing experience where sounds were magnified. I could 'see' imagery created by birds diving, fighting, chittering and my sheep 'maaaaing' outside my workshop door. Having recently completed an M.A. in Textile Design, where I studied Digital Design and print, I am now ready to relaunch my new designs for Fashion and Interiors. Ranges in progress includes, silk scarves and stoles (with matching bags), cushions and fabric for interiors, ties, bow ties with matching men's hankies and scarves. I am also enjoying creating Art Hangings and structures both digital and hand printed for gallery/corporate and a design range for wallpaper. I welcome discussion for commissions. Just ask me.
